Reiterer focused on sixth world

Dubai: Former five-time world aquabike champion Kevin Reiterer is feeling good about a sixth world crown after aligning with the Dubai-based Victory Team for this season’s UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championships.

The 25-year-old Austrian already has five world crowns and six European titles starting with the first one in 2009 and the most recent one in 2015.

Born in 1992 in Bad Fishau, around 50km south of Vienna, Reiterer was smitten by the aquabike bug very early in life after his late dad Thomas was introduced to the sport by friends. By 2008, the young Reiterer had turned professional and the following year he became the youngest world champion in the Ski GP category of Aquabike racing.

“I feel good about everything happening around me. This is truly a very professional set-up and this can only help me further in achieving my goal and the goal of the Victory Team in landing a world title in my very first year,” Reiterer told Gulf News at the team’s headquarters in Jebel Ali.

“Initial negotiations between the team and I took some time. But once both of us saw the clarity behind the task at hand there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to be in the blue colours of such a well-organised team,” he added.

“The instructions are simple — they want the world title in my first year here. The good news is that I want another world crown too,” Reiterer smiled.
